Growing ~ Going ~ Gathering ~ Giving

Jared Russell

A Note from Bro. Jared:

In the spring of 1996, the Lord revealed to me who He was: Glorious, Righteous and Holy; and exactly who I was: a sinner deserving hell. That Wednesday night, I found myself lost on a path which was leading me further away from God. I repented and placed my faith in Jesus Christ! At that moment I became a child of the King, a sinner saved by grace following the only Way to God. I once had little to live for, I now serve my Savior who’s worthy to die for. God called me to be a minister of the Gospel in 2002 and I have been faithfully serving in Southern Baptist churches since then. I am excited about what God is already doing in the lives of my family; my wife, Nancy, and daughters, Elayna Grace and Emma Kate, and our church family here at FBC Thayer.  I can’t wait to see what He will do in the days to come! I seek to personally fulfill the Great Commission by growing in the faith and taking the good news to the lost while leading others to do the same. My heartbeat is to love and serve God, which is best seen in my love and service to others.

Glenda Orahood

A note from Glenda:

I was born and raised in Thayer, Mo. My parents were Hoy and Ester Langley. I have one brother, Doyle Langley.

I accepted Christ as my savior and was baptized in First Baptist Church in 1945. After graduating from Thayer High School in 1952, I attended Draughon Business College in Memphis, Tennessee. While attending Business College I met my husband-to-be, Paul Orahood of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. We were married October 3, 1954, and lived in Memphis until 1973. While in Memphis we attended Park Avenue Baptist Church and later LaBelle Place Baptist Church until moving back to Thayer. Our son Herb Orahood and daughter Susan Orahood Raynor were born in Memphis. Herb and His wife, Melodi, live in Thayer. Our daughter, Susan and her husband, Eric, and their children, Emily and Jack, live in Benson, North Carolina.

Herb's son, Brad lives in Thayer and His daughter, Cicily, lives in West Plains. Cicily has a son, Ashton. Herb's son, Gaston, attends college in Springfield, Mo.

I owned and operated Thayer Florist from 1973 until my retirement in 1995 following the death of my husband. My daughter-in-law, Melodi now owns and operates the florist.

While in Memphis I was active in church and loved serving in whatever capacity I was needed and after returning to FBC I helped with Acteens and children's choir.I have also worked in Vacation Bible School. In August 2010 the church needed a secretary and I offered to take the position temporarily. Three years later I still hold that position. I love serving the Lord and the people of FBC.
